Directions for Driving
When driving, it is important to follow the signs for Hotel Punta Leona, Jaco and Quepos. They will lead you to the hotel. Road map to Punta Leona
The trip takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on traffic. When leaving San José take the main highway (Carretera Interamericana) going North towards Puntarenas. The highway will pass the Juan Santa María airport. Stay on the Interamericana for about 10-15 minutes more, until you see an exit for a town (pueblo) called Atenas. Take this exit and you will see a sign for Hotel Punta Leona. Continue to follow the signs for Hotel Punta Leona, Jaco and Quepos, as you go through the towns of Atenas, San Mateo, Orotina, and Tarcoles. The hotel is located on the right hand side of the road, about 15 minutes after you pass over the Tarcoles River. You will see a big sign and entrance gate on your right hand side; don't worry you won't miss it.

Taxi
There are always taxis outside the airport more than willing to take you to Punta Leona. The orange "Taxi Aeropuerto" taxis are recommended. Taxi vehicles are either small 4-door cars or small minivans
Semi Private Transportation
There are mini busses leaving from any hotel in San Jose everyday at around 8 a.m. that will drop you off directly at hotel Punta Leona. The return bus picks passengers up from the hotel reception at 3 pm everyday.

Public Transportation
Public buses pass by the entrance gate to Punta Leona. When you board the bus, it is necessary to ask the driver to stop at Hotel Punta Leona. Once at the entrance gate, the guard there will call for the internal shuttle bus, which will transport you to the front desk for check in. Public buses cost between $2.00 and $5.00, but only acept Costa Rican colones. Please note that this type of transportation we consider to be "roughing it". The amount of baggage you can bring is very limited. Also, please note that it is recommended to purchase tickets a day in advance, to make sure you get a seat.
